Huskers Shutout Leathernecks In Season Opener, 3-0

Reagan Raabe scored two goals in Nebraska’s season opener at Barbara Hibner Stadium as the Huskers defeated Western Illinois, 3-0, on Thursday evening.

The sophomore recorded her first goal of the night in the 12th minute of the match, firing a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal off a feed from Abbey Schwarz. Eleanor Dale was also awarded an assist as she set up the play with a lateral pass from the left side of the field.

To close out the half, freshman Allison Napora recorded the first goal of her Husker career in the 40th minute of the match, scoring off an inside pass from Kate Leachman. Napora shot the ball past the Leatherneck defenders into the bottom-left corner of the goal. Jordan Zade also picked up an assist, setting up Leachman from the right side of the field.

In the second half, Raabe found the back of the net again, this time off a goal line pass across the box from freshman Sarah Weber.

On the defensive end, four saves from Sami Hauk and a hard fought effort from the Husker defense helped the team clinch its first win and first shutout of the season.

Overall, the Huskers edged the Leathernecks in shots (22-7) and in corner kicks (5-1).

Nebraska returns to action Sunday, Aug. 22 on the road against Missouri at Walton Soccer Stadium. The game kicks off at 3:00 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on ESPN+ (additional subscription required).
