Huskers set sights on Northwestern with numerous players “questionable”

By Tommy Rezac

Nebraska (4-4 overall, 3-2 Big Ten) will face Northwestern (5-3 overall, 3-2 Big Ten) at 2:30 p.m. central time on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

The Wildcats have been one of the hottest teams in the Big Ten lately, winning their last three games in a row. They most recently knocked off then No. 16 Michigan State, 39-31, in triple overtime at Ryan Field in Evanston, IL last Saturday.

Nebraska is currently a two-point favorite against Northwestern.

Series History

The Huskers have won two of the past three meetings with the Wildcats, including a 24-13 win at Ryan Field in 2016.

Northwestern is 2-1 in Lincoln since Nebraska joined the Big Ten in 2011. The Wildcats beat Nebraska 30-28 at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 24, 2015 in Mike Riley’s inaugural season.

Nebraska leads the all-time series 7-3.

Depth Chart and Injury Update

There were a couple of notable changes to Nebraska’s depth chart this week. Sophomore center Michael Decker and junior right guard Tanner Farmer were placed on the injured list after getting hurt during the Purdue game.

Junior Cole Conrad is listed as the starting center with redshirt freshman John Raridon as his top backup.

Decker, whose injury was not disclosed, is out “indefinitely” and could be out for the season, according to head coach Mike Riley.

Farmer will be out for “an extended period of time.”

Questionable this week are junior safety Aaron Williams (neck), freshman running back Jaylin Bradley (ankle), Eric Lee (concussion protocol), and junior linebacker Luke Gifford (hip).

Farniok, who played for most of the Purdue game, is listed as the top RG with redshirt freshman Boe Wilson backing him up. Riley says he likes Farniok better as a guard, and will “probably remain at that spot” after beginning the season as a tackle.

Also of note, sophomore linebacker Alex Davis tops redshirt freshman Ben Stille as starting OLB.

New Kickoff Time

Nebraska’s game at Minnesota on Nov. 11 has been set for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.

It’ll be the first 11 a.m. game for the Huskers since hosting Northern Illinois in Lincoln on Sept. 16.
