Huskers Set New Records in Impressive Road Victory

The Nebraska swimming and diving team showcased a spectacular performance at Illinois this Saturday, setting six facility records and a remarkable school record, leading to a 169-131 victory.

Sophomore sensation Gena Jorgenson was a standout performer for the Big Red, obliterating the 1000 freestyle school record with an outstanding time of 9:41.68. Her exceptional effort not only earned her the first-place finish but also set a new facility record at Arc Pool.

Jorgenson continued her record-setting day with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 4:49.04, and secured a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.05. Her prowess in the pool was a significant contribution to the team’s overall success.

In a thrilling 400 freestyle relay, Jorgenson teamed up with Emily Haimes, Giulia Marchi, and Beatrix Tanko to clinch another win and facility record with a time of 3:23.73. This victory highlighted the Huskers’ team strength and coordination.

Beatrix Tanko also had a notable performance in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a time of 53.98. Teammates Caitlin Cairns and Anastasia Tichy followed closely, securing third and fourth places, respectively.

Freshman Anastasia Tichy’s time of 1:59.22 in the 200 butterfly not only clinched a facility record but also demonstrated her rising potential as a key competitor for the Huskers.

Sarah Barton added to the Huskers’ triumphs with a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke, while JoJo Randby and Maia Hall dominated the 100 breaststroke, securing the top two spots.

In the diving events, Nebraska’s divers continued their dominance. Abby Baxter achieved a career-best score of 331.65 in the three-meter diving, securing the top spot. Baxter also claimed victory in the one-meter diving event, with Antonina Harned and Kelsey Clairmont completing the top-three sweep in both events.

The Huskers’ victory was a testament to their hard work and commitment, setting a high standard for their upcoming meets.

Nebraska’s swimming and diving team returns home next weekend for a two-day meet against Rutgers, promising more thrilling performances and potentially more records. The Husker community is eagerly anticipating another showcase of talent and teamwork from this formidable squad.
