Huskers Season Ends at NCAA Regionals



The Nebraska softball team saw its 2022 season come to an end Saturday, as the Huskers fell to North Texas, 3-0 in their third game of the NCAA Stillwater (Okla.) Regional. 

The Huskers were held to just three hits on the game by freshman Skylar Savage (15-7), who pitched the complete game for the Mean Green.

Courtney Wallace took the loss for Nebraska, finishing the season with a 17-8 record. Wallace struck out six batters in 3.2 innings before Olivia Ferrell came in as relief. 

Billie Andrews, Peyton Glatter and Kaylin Kinney each recorded hits for the Huskers. Lexi Cobb and Sydney Ingle led UNT both tallying a hit and an RBI. 

Nebraska was the first to reach scoring position in the top of the third inning. Kinney led off with a walk, but was out at second after a fielder’s choice allowed Caitlynn Neal to reach first. Neal stole second to put NU in scoring position, but the Huskers were unable to capitalize. Nebraska went into the bottom of the third tied at 0. 

North Texas put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, a single up the middle added a runner, and a ground out, advanced the runner to scoring position. With two outs, a double to left field scored the first runner of the day. A fielding error scored another run, giving the Mean Green a 2-0 lead. 

UNT added another run in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, a double to left center put a runner in scoring position. Another double, scored one. Olivia Ferrell came in as relief in the circle, recording the final out of the inning. The Huskers went into the top of the fifth inning, down, 3-0. 

The Huskers reached scoring position in the top of the fifth. An infield single from Peyton Glatter started the inning off. With two outs, Brooke Andrews, who was running for Glatter, advanced to second on a wild pitch, but the Huskers were unable to capitalize and went into the bottom of the fifth down, 3-0. 

In the top of the seventh, Squier reached scoring position after a single and a wild pitch, but Nebraska was not able to rally, dropping the game, 3-0, to North Texas. 

The Huskers finished their season with its best record (41-16) since 2014 when NU finished 44-18.
