Marshall, Scheve Set Career-Bests In Carolina
Behind stellar play throughout the Husker lineup, Nebraska surged four spots on the leaderboard on March 27 to claim a tie for 12th place at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C. Along with their best round of the season (279), the Huskers three-round score of 879 (+9) also marked their best effort of the spring.
Senior Will Marshall (Elburn, Ill.) and junior Gentry Scheve (Emporia, Kan.) both set new career-best rounds. Marshall’s final-round performance of 67 (-5) triumphed over his previous mark of 68 (-4), which he set at the Badger Invitational in Verona, Wisc. Sept. 13, 2022. His 54-hole score of 213 (-3) was one stroke off his career-best (212, Quail Valley, 10/18/21). He also tallied the second highest finish in his career, finishing 19th.
Scheve shot a 70 (-2) on Monday to beat his previous low of 71 (Hawkeye Invite, 4/17/22). His three-round score of 219 (+3) also set a career-best.
Reed Malleck, the junior from York, Neb., joined in on the fun Monday, tying his career-low round score of 69 (-3). He also set a new career-low 54-hole score of 216 (E). This is the second tournament in a row he tied his career-best.
Malleck Sets Two Career-Bests at Desert Mountain
Reed Malleck set two career-bests to lead Nebraska at the Desert Mountain Collegiate on March 5. Along with a career-best 69 (-3) in the first round, Malleck’s finish of 28th beat his previous high of T-34th, which he set at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational Oct. 30.
Marshall Model of Consistency
Will Marshall, the senior from Elburn, Ill., has provided a steady presence in the Husker lineup throughout the 2022-23 season.
He currently holds a 73.55 stroke average through 20 rounds, best among Husker regulars. He has earned three top-25 finishes, highlighted by a 16th place finish at the Badger Invitational Sept. 13, a new career-best. He added two more top-25 finishes, with his most recent being a 19th place finish at the Seahawk Intercollegiate March 27. He has placed inside the top-50 in every tournament for the Big Red.
Crockett Sets Husker Record For Season Stroke Average
Harry Crockett (So., Oxted, England) transferred to Nebraska in the fall of 2022 and made an immediate impact on the Husker program.
Crockett golfed to an exceptional 71.82 stroke average in 11 rounds, the best average in school history. His top moments of the season included two 67 (-5) performances, which he achieved in the final round of the Purdue Fall Invitational October 11 and White Sands Bahamas Invitational October 30. He finished 3rd in Purdue, and nearly added another top-10 when he finished 11th in the Bahamas.
