Huskers Ranked Second in National RPI

Lincoln – The current nationally ranked No. 3 Nebraska bowling team now sits in second place in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) RPI rankings, surpassing the current No. 2 seed Vanderbilt.

The NTCA is a board of all collegiate bowling coaches responsible for national rankings by conducting coaches polls. Coaches use RPI, a Power Ranking Index, which calculates a teams overall score based on wins, losses, strength of schedules and opponents win/loss percentages.  

In January, the Big Red received a national rank of No. 4 through the NTCA coaches poll. The Huskers competed in three tournaments in January: the Stormin Blue and White Vegas Classic, The Northeast Classic and the Prairie View A&M Invite. NU came out swinging in the spring semester by achieving two third-place wins and another title at the Northeast Classic.  

No. 1 McKendree has proven to be a force on the lanes this year continually ranked No. 1 in the RPI and coaches polls. Vanderbilt has been ranked both second and third throughout the season, while Youngstown State, Stephen F. Austin and Arkansas State round out the top five.

The Huskers are ranked No. 1 for overall strength of schedule in the country competing week after week against the best bowling teams in the country. This semester alone NU has gone 37-15 and are now 74-31 on the year. 

Nebraska looks to claim one final regular season title this weekend at the Big Red Invitational, March 3-5 in Lincoln, Neb. Upon completion of the Big Red Invite, the Huskers hope to return to the NCAA Regionals and Championships.
