Huskers Open Spring at B1G Match Play

The Nebraska women’s golf team opens its 2022 spring campaign at the Big Ten Match Play, Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.

The two-day tournament at the Island Golf Course features 10 Big Ten Conference teams, including Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Wisconsin and the hosts from Ohio State. 

The teams will be challenged by a 6,344-yard layout on the Island Course while pairs go head-to-head in Match Play competition, with shotgun starts on both days of competition beginning at 7:15 a.m. (CT). Live scoring for the tournament will be provided by GolfStat.com.

The Huskers earned the No. 4 seed in the 10-team field based on their No. 72 national ranking by GolfStat at the end of the fall season of competition. The Big Red will battle the No. 5 seed (No. 73 GolfStat) in the first match of the tournament on Monday, Jan. 31. 

A Monday morning would advance the Huskers into an afternoon semifinal match with either No. 1 seed Purdue or No. 8 Indiana, while a morning loss would pit Nebraska against either No. 9 seed Iowa or No. 10 Rutgers. The third and final matches for all teams will occur on Tuesday morning at 7:15 a.m. (CT). 

Six players are expected to compete for Nebraska in the Match Play format, including Vanessa Bouvet, Kirsten Baete, Megan Whittaker, Michaela Vavrova, Miu Takahashi and Lindsey Thiele. Bouvet led the Big Red with a 73.17 stroke average during the fall, while Baete added a 73.47 average capped by a tournament title in the Bahamas to close the fall campaign.
