Huskers Open Dual Season against Jackrabbits

Brookings, S.D. – The Nebraska swimming and diving team opens its regular season on Friday, Oct. 7 with the South Dakota State dual in Brookings, S.D., with events beginning at 4 p.m. (CT).

Maia Hall and Berkeley Livingston will lead the Huskers, as the top returning point scorers from the 2022 Big Ten Championships. Hall, a sophomore from Whitby, England, qualified for the B-finals in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at conference. She raced to 11th place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.66 and 13th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:01.09. In the preliminaries, both of Hall’s times rank in the top five on Nebraska’s All-Time list.

Livingston, a senior captain and Lincoln-native, swam to 15th place in the 400 IM at Big Tens. She clocked a 4:14.16 in the preliminaries, placing her third on Nebraska’s All-Time list in the event.

Shannon Stott and Madesyn Ronquillio will join Livingston as senior leaders and captains. Stott (St. Albans, Great Britain) collected 11 titles last season, with six in the 200 butterfly. Her most notable races of the season were a 200 butterfly victory at the competitive Mizzou Invitational, placing in the top ten at the U.S. Open in the 200-meter butterfly, and winning the C-final at Big Tens. Ronquillio (Tracy, Calif.) led NU in the backstroke events last season, with 10 individual wins between the 100 and 200 backstroke events. She capped off her season qualifying for the C-finals in the 200 backstroke at Big Tens.

JoJo Randby was a consistent contributor during her freshman campaign and qualified for the C-finals in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at conference. The sophomore from Omaha finished 18th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:01.50 and 20th in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:14.89.  Another name to watch for this season is Sarah Barton, a junior from North Carolina. She improved her time consistently throughout last season, leading to a pair of C-final appearances at Big Tens. In the 400 IM, Barton finished in 20th with a 4:20.09 and in the 200 backstroke, she took 23rd with a 1:59.46.

In the diving well, Reagan Hinze will lead the pair of newcomers, Kelsey Clairmont and Ellee Delcamp. Hinze, a junior from Conroe, Texas, scored points in the one- and three-meter events at conference last year, placing 18th in the three-meter and 24th in the one-meter. Sara Troyer will be out for the season due to injury.

On the swimming side, Gena Jorgenson, a top recruit from South Dakota, and Giulia Marchi, a freestyler from Italy, will make their debuts as Huskers. Both athletes bring extensive experience and will make an immediate impact for the team.

The dual against the Jackrabbits has been a regular meeting since the 2005-06 season, with the Huskers remaining unbeaten in the past 15 matchups. The last time the teams met was on Oct. 2 of last year in the Devaney Center Natatorium, where NU cruised to a 189-54 victory.
