Huskers in the Pros: Jan. 12



Throughout the 2022-23 season, Huskers.com will spotlight the nearly two dozen former Huskers playing professionally around the world. 

Trey McGowens became the most recent Husker to make his debut, as he signed with the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League. McGowens had four points, six assists and three rebounds in a 121-118 loss to the Windy City Bulls on Wednesday. He has made three appearances, averaging 2.7 points, 2.7 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game.  

Another former Husker who made a quick impact on his new surroundings was Glynn Watson Jr. (2016-19), as he moved from Poland to Jovena BC in Lithaunia over the Christmas break. Watson had 20 points, including four 3-poitners,against Leitkabelis, in his first league game on Saturday.  

James Palmer Jr. (2018-19) was honored for his first half of the season as he was selected to the LNB All-star game on Dec. 31. Put on a show for the World team with 32 points and three assists in a 136-128 loss to the All-Star France, as he squared off against Victor Wembanyama, who will likely be the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.  Palmer has enjoyed a strong campaign for JL Bourg, averaging 16.9 points per game, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in the top league in France. He is shooting 43 percent from 3-point range and has been in double figures in 22 of 26 games across all competitions. 

Tai Webster (2014-17) was also on the move over the break, as he signed with Perth in the Australian Basketball League. Webster has played in two games since signing and is averaging 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Webster had 11 points in a 93-30 win over the New Zealand Breakers on Tuesday. For Webster, he also has a chance to play professionally with his older brother, Corey. The pair has played together with the New Zealand National program for several years, and this marks the first time they have been on the same professional team.

Kobe Webster (2021-22) continued his strong rookie campaign for Den Bosch in the Netherlands on Wednesday, scoring a season-high 30 points in an 86-72 win over Kalev in the FIBA Europe Cup. Webster hit seven 3-pointers in the win and is averaging 14.6 ppg in the Europe Cup and shooting 42 percent from 3-point range.
