Huskers in the NFL Week 7

With six teams on bye it affected our former Huskers as we didn’t get to see Randy Gregory terrorizing opposing quarterbacks. But in his absence we had Maliek Collins step up and have his best game of his career. Add in another dominant Suh performance we also see Ameer Abdullah sign with a new team. Husker of the Week

Maliek Collins, Houston Texans

All season long Maliek Collins has come close to getting his first sack in two years, that streak ended against the Cardinals on the fifth play of the game. Collins would have then gotten his second sack of the game but a bogus roughing the passer penalty took that away. Add in a quarterback hurry and it was easily the best game Collins has had in the past two years.

Good Game

Ndamukong Suh, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

While Suh didn’t accumulate any stats in the Bucs throttling of the Bears he had a big impact on the game. Suh and the rest of the Bucs defense terrorized rookie Justin Fields giving him little to no time to throw the ball. Suh’s highlight of the game came when he basically tackled the running back by pushing the Bears center laterally right as the back was running by.

Solid Game

Chris Jones, Tennessee Titans

In his first action of the season Jones was part of a Titans secondary that held Patrick Mahomes to 206 passing yards and zero touchdowns. Jones played 25% of the defensive snaps and only finished with one tackle which came in the final possession of the game when Jones had tight coverage on Tyreke Hill.

Sam Koch, Baltimore Ravens

In the Ravens game against the Bengals it reunited Koch with his Nebraska teammate Zac Taylor. As for the game Koch was alright putting two of his six punts inside the twenty. The low light was when the Ravens elected to not try a long field goal and then Koch’s punt did go into the endzone. Koch also had a nice catch on an off target snap to still get it down.

Rough Game

Ameer Abdullah, Carolina Panthers

After being released this week, Ameer was quickly signed by the Carolina Panthers to add depth while Christian McCaffrey is hurt. Abdullah didn’t get any offense snaps this week but did return three kicks. Unfortunately Ameer didn’t have any room to work and only averaged 13 yards per return.

Limited Snaps

Rex Burkhead, Houston Texans

Anybody else wish Burkhead was still playing for the Patriots? I know Patriots fans do. Against Arizona it has been the typical Burkhead game. Play four snaps on offense but not get the ball once and then mainly be a special teams player who got one tackle.

Jack Stoll, Philadelphia Eagles

In the Eagle’s first game since starter Zach Ertz was traded we saw Stoll continue to play a limited number of snaps and be used primarily as a blocker. But Stoll’s 13 total offensive snaps was still second on the team for tight ends. Maybe one of these days he’ll get a target.

Cethan Carter, Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins offense had their best outing of the season against the Falcons but Cethan Carter wasn’t out there to participate as his only playing time came on special teams. Carter did finish the game with one assisted tackle on a kick off.

Stanley Morgan, Cincinnati Bengals

Even in the Bengals blowout win over Baltimore we didn’t get to see Morgan get any offensive snaps. Morgan did all his work on coverage units which included four punts and two kickoff returns, but Morgan didn’t register a single tackle.

Inactive or Did Not Play

Lavonte David, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Khalil Davis, Indianapolis Colts

Davis was active for a second straight week but didn’t see the field in the Colts rain filled game against the 49ers.
