Huskers Host Wolverines Sunday – University of Nebraska

Following its first win of the season on Thursday, the Nebraska women’s soccer team continues its home slate with a match against Michigan on Sunday, March 7 at Barbara Hibner Soccer Stadium. The game between the Huskers (1-1-1) and Wolverines (1-1-2) kicks off at 12:05 p.m. (CT) and can be streamed on BTN+ (additional subscription required). 

Last Time Out

Nebraska earned its first win of the season on Thursday, March 4 in a 2-1 victory over Purdue in the home-opener. Eleanor Dale scored the team’s two goals for her first points of her career as a Husker. 

Next Up

Nebraska meets Wisconsin in Lincoln on Saturday, March 13 at 2:05 p.m. (CT) to close the three-game home stretch. The match will be streamed on BTN+. 

Kicking Off

  • In Thursday’s win over Purdue, Eleanor Dale scored her first goals as a Husker while Reagan Raabe and Ashley Zugay added their first points with assists in the match. 
  • Dale’s goals were the Huskers’ first goals scored since a 1-1 draw against Minnesota on Oct. 17, 2019 and first goals scored by the Huskers at Hibner Stadiums since Oct. 13, 2019 against Rutgers. 
  • Nebraska hosts two three-game home stands this season. The first, beginning this week, closes with Wisconsin on Saturday, March 13. The Huskers close the season with another three games at home against Rutgers, Penn State and Iowa. 
  • Eleanor Dale leads the Huskers with two goals, ten shots and eight shots on goal this season. In goal, Makinzie Short has grabbed four saves and helped the team to a shutout in the team’s first game of the season against Minnesota.
  • 21 members of the Nebraska women’s soccer team were recently named to the Fall 2020 Student-Athlete Honor Roll. Of those recognized, Grace Brown, Kenzie Coons, Allison Ulness, Hannah Young and Ashley Zugay all earned 4.0 GPAs for the semester. 

Scouting the Michigan Wolverines

  • Michigan is 1-1-2 on the season and is ninth in the Big Ten standings. The Wolverines earned their lone win of the season in a 2-0 victory over Minnesota on Feb. 25. 
  • In their last match, the Wolverines played Iowa to a 0-0 tie in its second double-overtime game of the season. 
  • Nicki Hernandez leads the team with two goals on the season, including the game-winning score against Minnesota. Sammi Woods also added a goal for the Wolverines in the season-opening match against Ohio State. 
  • Hillary Beall returns to net for the Wolverines this season, with 24 saves on the year and a 0.923 save percentage.  
  • Head Jennifer Klein is 27-16-4 at the helm of the Wolverines and is in her third year at Michigan. She is assisted by Tiffany Hansen, Katie Bultin and Bilal Hussein. 
  • 2020-21 Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch: 

    • #18 Raleigh Loughman (Junior M): Led the team with five shots and four on goal in the match against Iowa. She returns to the lineup as a starter and is a 2019  Second Team All-Big Ten Honoree.
    • #4 Alia Martin (Senior D): Martin returns to the starting backline for Michigan, helping the team to two shutouts this season. She has started in all but one of her appearances for the Wolverines for her career. 
    • #8 Sarah Stratigakis (Senior M): Stratigakis returns to the lineup as the reigning Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and a United Soccer Coaches All-American. She has recorded four shots and two on goal this season.
