The Nebraska golf team will return to action as they travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico to compete in the William H. Tucker Invitational, Sept. 23-24.
Nebraska will make their way to New Mexico on Wednesday before playing a practice round on Thursday at the UNM Championship Golf Course and its Par 72, 7,546 yard layout. The two-day, 54-hole event tees off at 8:45 a.m. (CT) on Friday, September 23 with a shotgun start.
The field competing in the tournament features a strong west coast flavor. It also features many teams that competed in NCAA regionals in 2021-22, including BYU, Denver, Loyola Marymount, UNLV, New Mexico, New Mexico State, San Francisco, North Texas, San Diego, San Diego State, and TCU. Colorado, Hawaii, Northern Illinois, Utah Tech, Wyoming, UTEP, UTSA round out the strong field of 19 teams.
Nebraska will be looking to build off their exceptional showing at the Badger Invitational, where they placed fourth in an 18-team field with a two-round score of 290-281 (-5). Nebraska marked its best performance in a tournament of more than 15 teams since tying for third at the 16-team Mizzou Intercollegiate (April 4-5, 2011).
Nebraska’s five-player lineup for this event will once again be a mix of veterans and newcomers. Junior Gentry Scheve (Emporia, Kan) earned the top spot in the Husker lineup and will make his season debut at the Tucker Invite. Scheve recorded a 76.11 stroke average in the 2021-22 season in nine rounds played, including a career best 71 (-1) at the Hawkeye Invite on April 17.
The rest of Nebraska’s lineup will feature players who competed at the Badger Invitational (Sept. 12-13) earlier this season. Senior Will Marshall (Elburn, Ill.) earned the number two spot in the Husker lineup and will look to build on his stellar two rounds in Wisconsin, where he set career bests with a 68 (-4) in his second round and a 16th place finish.
Jeremy Sisson (Skaneateles, N.Y.) will also look to carry his momentum from his first tournament. Sisson paced the Huskers with a career best 68 (-4) in the first round in Wisconsin and finished in 20th place, which was his third career top-25 effort.
The Nebraska lineup will be rounded out by two first-year players in Quinn Yost (Farmington, N.M.) and Harry Crockett (Oxted, England). Yost posted a top-25 finish in his first career tournament action at the Badger Invite with a strong second round 69 (-3) to help Nebraska finish fourth.
Harry Crockett will golf out of the fifth spot in the Huskers lineup. Crockett is coming off of a solid showing at the Badger Invitational, where he also finished with a strong second round of 70 (-2) in his first rounds as a Husker.
