The Nebraska men’s golf team will travel to Galloway, N.J. to begin postseason play at the Big Ten Championships this weekend, April 28-30.
The three-day tournament will take place at the Galloway National Golf Club and its Par 71, 7,111-yard layout. Live scoring for the tournament can be found at GolfStat.com. Teams will arrive to New Jersey on Thursday before first round action begins Friday with tee times at 8 a.m. (CT).
The Huskers will roll out the same five players in the lineup from the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate last weekend. where they golfed to a sixth-place finish with a team score of 890 (+38).
Will Marshall leads Nebraska’s five-count-four lineup this weekend. The senior from Elburn, Ill., has enjoyed a career season for the Big Red, holding a strong 73.23 stroke average through 26 rounds in 2022-23. He will compete in the Big Ten Championships with three consecutive top-25 finishes under his belt. Marshall has also golfed to seven sub-par rounds, highlighted by a five-under 67 at the Seahawk Intercollegiate on March 27, a career-best. He also set a new career-best six-under 210 at the Tiger Collegiate April 11.
Gentry Scheve, who will golf out of the No.2 spot, carries a robust 72.75 stroke average through 12 rounds this season. The junior from Emporia, Kan., has set new career-bests in three straight tournaments leading into this weekend. His six-under 66 at the Tiger Collegiate remains the best round by any Husker this season.
Reed Malleck, who will golf out of the No.3 spot in the lineup, carries a 74.75 stroke average through 20 rounds in his junior season. The native of York, Neb., placed 25th at the Tiger Collegiate April 11, his first career top-25 finish. His three-round score of 211 (-5) was also a new low.
Grant Jabenis and Davis Johnson, two Husker newcomers, will round out the Nebraska contingent in the Garden State. Jabenis (Omaha, Neb.) finished 28th in Illinois last weekend, the sophomore’s best lineup finish of the season. He has finished inside the top five in two individual tournaments, including a runner-up finish at the Stampede at The Creek in Elkhorn, Neb., where he turned in a career-low 67 (-5) in the second round. Johnson (Chaska, Minn.) carries a 75.44 stroke average through nine rounds in his freshman campaign, including a career-best performance at the Tiger Collegiate, where he golfed to a 36-hole score of 218 (+2) and carded en even-par 71 in the second round.
