Huskers Grab Second Conference Win Of Weekend Over Indiana

Bloomington, Ind. – The No. 75 Nebraska men’s tennis team (8-14, 4-3 Big Ten) gathered its second-straight conference win against the Indiana Hoosiers (5-15, 0-7 Big Ten), 4-2 at the IU Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Action started with doubles play as the No. 1 team of Victor Moreno Lozano and Nic Wiedenhorn lost to Indiana’s Patrick Fletchall and Ilya Tiraspolsky, 6-2. In the No. 3 spot, Dario Huber and Patrick Cacciatore fell just short to the Hoosier’s duo of Michael Andre and Luka Vukovic, 7-5, to earn the doubles point.

William Gleason and Calvin Mueller had their match in the No. 2 spot called at 5-4, and the point was awarded to Indiana.

 

In singles play, Fletchall beat Mueller in consecutive sets, 6-2, 6-2, to give the Hoosiers their second match point. Roni Hietaranta then proceeded to defeat Michael Andre in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The Lappeenranta, Finland native earned his team-high 13th victory of the season and trimmed the Indiana advantage to 2-1. Gleason won his fourth match in his last five games, as he knocked off Vikash Singh in the No. 5 spot, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, to even the match at two.

Nebraska took the last two singles matches in the No. 3 and No. 6 spots to take the match, 4-2. Moreno won a close tiebreaker over Vukovic to take a straight-set victory, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Wiedenhorn clinched the second-straight conference victory for the Big Red, as he defeated Tiraspolsky, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Nebraska moves to 8-14 on the season and are now 4-3 in conference play.

 

The Huskers will return to the Dillon Tennis Center for the final two home games of the spring campaign against Penn State on April 22 at 4 p.m. CT and Ohio State on April 24 at Noon CT.
