Huskers Finish Strong at OSU Invite



Stillwater, Okla. – The Nebraska men’s tennis team finished the Oklahoma State Invite strong as they defeated Wichita State in singles play and Oklahoma State in doubles action. At Drake, senior Patrick Cacciatore and junior Albert Sprlak-Puk both won their respective singles brackets.
 
Six of the seven Nebraska players had an impressive start to their fall sesaon as they left the weekend with a winning singles record.

Senior Victor Moreno Lozano went undefeated on the weekend in singles action after defeating Wichita State’s Jackie Lin 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Rudra Dixit won both of his singles matches in the No. 6 spot for Nebraska. Lozano and Dixit were the only two Huskers to not drop a set in singles play throughout the tournament.

Junior Shunya Maruyama shined in the No. 1 spot for Nebraska as he wrapped up the weekend with a 2-1 record. Senior William Gleason, sophomore Nic Wiedenhorn, and freshman Roni Hietaranta also went 2-1 in singles action to begin the season. Freshman Calvin Mueller finished play in Oklahoma with a hard-fought 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 loss to Wichita State’s Ray Lo.

In doubles play, the teams of Gleason/Mueller and Dixit/Hietaranta won both of their matches to finish undefeated on the weekend. Moreno and Maruyama dropped their two doubles matches in Stillwater, but both impressed in singles action.

At Drake, Cacciatore and Sprlak-Puk both went 3-0 in their brackets to capture singles championships in Flight A and Flight B. Saleh had to withdraw from the tournament after he suffered an injury in the first round. 

The Huskers look forward to next weekend where they will travel to Los Angeles for the Rancher Invite from Sept. 24-26.
