Huskers Finish Day Three of Big Ten Championships

The Nebraska men’s tennis team saw the Huskers finish the day 4-1 after both junior Shunya Maruyama and freshman Calvin Mueller won both their consolation matches.

In the first matchup, Hieteranta knocked off Indiana’s Carson Haskins with a 6-3, 6-1 win. He then proceeded to defeat Graydon Lair of Michigan State in another sweep, 6-1, 7-5. The first-year player dropped his round of 16 to Illinois’ Siphosothando Montsi 7-5, 1-6 and lost the tiebreaker 10-7.

Maruyama and Mueller both fell short in their opening matches of the tournament. Mueller forced a tiebreaker third set, taking Indiana’s Luke Vukovic to the limit but eventually lost 6-3, 3-6, [10-7]. Both men have won all three of their consolation matches and look forward to wrapping up play tomorrow.

The duo of Hietaranta and Maruyama won Thursday’s opening doubles match against Welch and Morgan of Purdue 6-0.

Senior Dario Huber and Victor Moreno Lozano dropped their doubles consolation match to Arkansas’ Manuel and Burdet 7-5, 5-7, [10-5].
