Huskers Fall to Waves – University of Nebraska

La Jolla, Calif. – The Nebraska men’s tennis team (3-9, 0-0 Big Ten) came up short on the road against the No. 19 Pepperdine Waves (6-4, 0-0 WCC) 4-0 at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club on Thursday afternoon.

Doubles action kicked things off, as Pepperdine’s duo of Corrado Summaria and Tim Zeitvogel knocked off Patrick Cacciatore and Calvin Mueller, 6-1, in the No. 3 spot. The Waves followed that up with a victory in the No. 1 spot as Andrew Rogers and Eero Vasa defeated the Huskers’ Victor Moreno Lozano and Nic Wiedenhorn, 6-4. Dario Huber and Shunya Maruyama battled in the No. 2 spot before the match was called with the team up 5-4, and the doubles point was awarded to Pepperdine.

In singles action, Huber dropped the first match to No. 13 Daniel De Jonge in the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-3, to go down 2-0. In the No. 6 spot, Lozano also fell to Enrique Luque Rico in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, to extend the Waves lead to 3-0. No. 24 Rogers clinched the victory for Pepperdine as he downed Wiedenhorn in consecutive sets, 6-2, 6-3. William Gleason and Maruyama were the only Husker players to take a set in singles action, but both matches went unfinished after the match was called.

Up next, the Huskers will stay in California to take part in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships over the weekend at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
