Huskers Earn 4-1 Win Over Wayne State

The Nebraska beach volleyball team improved its perfect home record to 4-0 this season with a 4-1 win over Wayne State on Thursday at the Hawks Championship Center.

Nebraska moved to 6-3 on the season while Wayne State fell to 3-2.

Playing in order, the Huskers won the first two matches thanks to a 21-15, 21-10 sweep by Lauren Stivrins and Nicklin Hames and a 21-18, 10-21, 15-12 comeback win by Kenzie Knuckles and Madi Kubik. The Huskers’ No. 3 pair of Jazz Sweet and Lexi Sun were unable to finish their match after Sun felt ill, so the Wildcats picked up the team point.

But Hayley Densberger and Callie Schwarzenbach clinched the match with an emphatic 21-15, 21-13 victory at No. 4. Emma Gabel and Riley Zuhn provided a resounding 21-10, 21-12 win at the No. 5 spot to complete the 4-1 victory. Fallon Stutheit and Nicole Drewnick were victorious in their exhibition match, 21-15, 17-21, 15-12.

Nebraska will host Ottawa (Kan.) on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Hawks Championship Center.
