Huskers Dive Into the Season with Exciting Intrasquad Matchup

The Nebraska Swimming and Diving team is all set to inaugurate the 2023-24 season in a thrilling manner – with the Scarlet vs. Cream Intrasquad meet. This much-anticipated clash takes place on Friday, October 6 at 4 p.m. at the Devaney Center Natatorium.

With a memory of five school records being established in the 2022-2023 season, the Huskers are keen to create new benchmarks. Freshman sensation Gena Jorgenson had carved her name into the records by completing the 1,650 freestyle in 16:13.34. Not to be left behind, JoJo Randby, the promising sophomore, logged a swift 1:00.07 in the 100 breaststroke, besting the record held by the famed Olympian Penny Heyns.

Team Scarlet’s Powerhouses and New Entrants

Jorgenson, who quickly ascended to the 2023 NCAA Championships in her debut Husker year, is ready to make waves for Team Scarlet. Accompanying her are Emily Haimes and Maia Hall. Haimes, the co-captain, boasts of commendable individual and relay accomplishments from the last season. At the 2023 Big Ten Championships, she secured two ninth-place finishes in relays and showcased her prowess in both the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly at the Hawkeye invitational.

Maia Hall’s remarkable 2:10.76 in the 200 breaststroke at the Hawkeye Invitational not only met the NCAA B Standard Cut but also clinched the title of the third-fastest time in Nebraska’s history. Returners Gabby Donahue, Ellee Delcamp, and Giulia Marchi reinforce Team Scarlet. Fresh faces Abby Baxter, Jenna Brown, Antonina Harned, Amelia Riggott, Beatrix Tanko, and Anastasia Tichy are eager to make their Husker debut for Scarlet.

Cream Team: A Blend of Experience and Fresh Talent

The Cream team features co-captain Caitlin Cairns, who left a mark with her personal bests during her junior year. Adding strength are Sarah Barton and Randby. Randby’s stellar credentials include nine top-three finishes and six NCAA B Standard Cuts in the 100 breaststroke. Barton exhibited her versatility at the 2023 Big Ten Championships, especially in events like the 400 IM and 200 butterfly.

Diver Kelsey Clairmont, another Cream team standout, showcased her talent at the NCAA Championships, ranking 34th on the platform. Returners Lexi Kucera, Madison Lloyd, and Sydney McCracken further solidify the team’s foundation. The Cream team also eagerly anticipates the splash debut of Caterina Bisiacchi, Jordyn Schmucker, Anna Vlachou, and Frankie Webb.
