Huskers Display Dominance, Overpowering Spartans in 3-1 Victory

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska volleyball enthusiasts were treated to an exhilarating display of skill, power, and teamwork as the No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team clinched a remarkable 3-1 victory against Michigan State on Friday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. This marked the second consecutive victory for the Huskers against the Spartans in just over a week.

Drawing energy from the 8,539 fans in attendance, the Huskers showcased an impeccable blend of offense and defense throughout the match. Merritt Beason was the standout player, delivering a match-high 13 kills at an impressive .423. She also contributed significantly on the defensive front with eight digs and three blocks. Not far behind, Andi Jackson matched Beason’s 13 kills, achieving a personal best on .524 hitting and adding six blocks to her name.

Adding to Nebraska’s offensive force were Lindsay Krause and Harper Murray, chipping in with eight and seven kills respectively. Both Ally Batenhorst and Bekka Allick made their presence felt with five kills each, while Allick also bolstered the defense with three blocks. As a unit, Nebraska outshined the Spartans, marking an 11-6 advantage in blocks.

The overall stats told a clear story. Nebraska dominated with a .302 hitting percentage, restricting Michigan State to just .097. Furthermore, the Huskers led in both kills (57-36) and digs (59-49). Both teams, however, seemed to struggle a bit with service, serving two aces each and committing 14 errors from the service line.

Bergen Reilly played a pivotal role in orchestrating the Husker’s play with 38 assists and a personal record of 16 digs. Lexi Rodriguez also was on top form, matching Reilly’s 16 digs and adding seven assists.

Michigan State, while resilient, couldn’t match the Huskers’ intensity. Aliyah Moore was their standout player, leading the Spartans with 10 kills.

The four sets were a testament to Nebraska’s might and Michigan State’s tenacity:

  • In the first set, the Huskers started on a warpath, forcing an early Michigan State timeout. Displaying dominance, Nebraska wrapped up the set 25-12.
  • The second set saw a more balanced competition initially. However, spurred by Jackson and Beason’s brilliant plays, the Huskers gradually pulled away, sealing the set 25-19.
  • The third set marked a resurgence for the Spartans. Despite a spirited comeback attempt by the Huskers, Michigan State managed to hold their ground and clinched the set 25-22.
  • The fourth and final set was a demonstration of Nebraska’s resilience and skill. With a series of brilliant plays, Nebraska surged ahead, ultimately concluding the match with a dominant 25-15 set victory.

As the Huskers continue their impressive run, they gear up to face No. 13 Penn State on Saturday, 7 p.m., once again at the iconic Bob Devaney Sports Center. With the momentum on their side, fans eagerly await another exciting showdown.
