Huskers Close Fall in Florida

The Nebraska men’s golf wraps up its 2021 fall season by traveling to Vero Beach, Fla., for the Quail Valley Collegiate, Oct. 17-18.

Nebraska’s five-player lineup will be part of a strong 16-team field to take on the par-72, 7,460-yard layout at Quail Valley Golf Club. Michigan State hosts the two-day, 54-hole event, which is set to tee off with a shotgun start and continuous play for the first two rounds on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. (CT). The tournament concludes with Monday’s final round and another shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be provided by GolfStat.com.

Nebraska will be one of six Big Ten teams in the field, including Indiana, Rutgers, Northwestern,  Maryland and the hosts from Michigan State. Northwestern and Indiana are among the four programs ranked nationally in the top 25, joining South Florida and Kansas. Rounding out the loaded field are Boston College, Jacksonville, Kent State, Miami, Missouri-Kansas City, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis and Toledo. 

Nebraska’s five-player lineup will be led by senior Tom Westenberger (Wuppertal, Germany), who produced NU’s best finish (T10th) with a career-best 212 (-4) at the Rich Harvest Farms Invitational (Oct. 2-4). Senior Branden Meyer (Gilbert, Ariz.), who added a career-best 213 (-3) while making his first lineup appearance of the season at Rich Harvest Farms, will play out of the No. 2 position at Quail Valley.

Junior Will Marshall makes his third straight lineup appearance, while sophomore Jeremy Sisson (Skaneateles, N.Y.) earned the No. 4 spot in the lineup after his career-best 214 (-2) at Rich Harvest Farms. Senior Mark Foelbaek (Jelling, Denmark), who missed Rich Harvest Farms while recovering from illness, will round out the Big Red lineup.

Nebraska took seventh at Rich Harvest Farms with five Huskers carding career-best scores.
