Huskers Climb All-Time List on Day Three

Madison, Wisc.– The Nebraska swimming and diving team continued to battle conference foes at the 2022 Big Ten Championships on Friday. 

The 100 breaststroke was a highlight event for the Huskers as they sent three swimmers to the finals. Freshman Maia Hall and sophomore Ella Stein had back-to-back finishes with 13th and 14th place to qualify for the B-finals. Hall’s prelims time of 1:00.98 marks the fourth-fastest time in Nebraska history in the event, while Stein’s 1:01.55 is the sixth-fastest. Freshman JoJo Randby completed the trio as she swam to 18th place in the C-finals with a 1:01.50.

“Today was a pivotal day,” Nebraska head coach Pablo Morales said. “We needed a good morning of prelims which we had and then we came back at night with some really great excitement. We had some breakthrough swims and that is what we are looking forward to continuing during the final day tomorrow.”

Fifth-year senior Autumn Haebig returned to the podium after finishing in sixth place in the 200 freestyle A-finals with a 1:45.74.

Lincoln-native Berkeley Livingston shaved almost three seconds off her previous career-best time in the 400 IM to finish 10th in the prelims and earn a spot in the B-finals. Her prelims time of 4:14.16 is the third-best 400 IM time in school history. She finished the night finishing 15th overall in her finals swim.

Lexi Kucera rounded out the Huskers in the finals with a C-finals appearance in the 100 butterfly. The sophomore improved her time to place 22nd with a 54.09.

Divers competed in the three-meter on Friday, where sophomore Reagan Hinze provided the top finish for the Huskers with a 284.65 to place 18th.

The Big Red capped off Friday evening with the 200 freestyle relay (11th, 1:32.82). 

Ohio State remains on top in the teams race with 877 points. Nebraska is in 10th, but only a point behind Purdue and Penn State heading into the final day.

Nebraska will return tomorrow at 10 a.m. for the final day of the conference meet. The event will be live-streamed on B1G+.
