Huskers Begin Season at Augustana Twilight



The Nebraska cross country team opens the 2022 season at the Augustana Twilight on Friday, Sept. 2 at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D. The women’s 5K will begin at 8:30 p.m., followed by the men’s four-mile race at 9 p.m.

The Husker men have won the Augustana Twilight six of the last eight seasons. The women have finished in the top-three at the meet in each of the last eight seasons after placing runner-up in 2021.

On the men’s side, the 2022 team features 10 returners and seven newcomers. Bailey Timmons is the top returner for the men after placing 75th at the Big Ten Championships last season, followed by Ryan Eastman in 78th and Jerry Jorgenson in 84th.

The Nebraska women open the season ranked No. 11 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region rankings. This marks the third consecutive season the Husker women have been ranked in the preseason and the fourth preseason ranking since 2011.

The women have 14 returners and seven newcomers this fall. Hannah Godwin returns for the Big Red after finishing 65th at the Big Ten Championships in her freshman season. Jacquelyn Abanses recorded an 80th-place finish, while Taya Skelton finished 81st and Brynna McQuillen crossed the finish line in 96th.
