Huskers Back in Action at Lady Buckeye

The Nebraska women’s golf team returns to action after a month off from competition to take on a strong 10-team field at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, April 15-16.

The Huskers, who are fighting to stay in contention for an NCAA Regional bid, have spent the past month focusing on their individual games after a tie for 11th at the 17-team Briar’s Creek Invitational in South Carolina (March 14-15).

The Lady Buckeye will serve as a final tune-up for the Big Ten Championship, which will be held in Pittsburgh (Fox Chapel CC), April 22-24. The Lady Buckeye’s 10-team field is filled with seven Big Ten schools, including No. 25 Illinois, No. 35 Michigan State, the hosts and No. 57 Ohio State, No. 62 Maryland, No. 70 Nebraska, No. 92 Penn State and No. 117 Rutgers. Perennial No. 44 Kent State, Xavier and NCAA Division II power Indianapolis round out the field.

The Huskers will travel to Ohio on Wednesday and take part in Thursday’s practice round before the first two rounds of competition begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT) on Friday. Saturday’s final round is set to begin with tee times at 7:30 a.m. (CT).

The Lady Buckeye features a six-count-four scoring format identical to the Big Ten Championship. Nebraska senior Kirsten Baete will play out of the top spot in the Husker lineup, ahead of No. 2 Megan Whittaker, who has posted six consecutive top-25 finishes. Vanessa Bouvet will occupy the No. 3 spot, while freshman Miu Takahashi will play out of the No. 4 position. Michaela Vavrova and Nicole Hansen round out the Big Red’s lineup in Ohio.
