The Nebraska men’s tennis team (0-7, 0-7 Big Ten) will host Michigan State (2-6, 2-4 Big Ten) this Friday, March 19, at 2 p.m. CT and Michigan (6-1, 6-0 Big Ten) this Sunday, March 21, at 10 a.m. CT as NU hopes to get its first win of the season. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, admission will not be allowed for the general public.

Scouting Michigan State
• The Spartans finished the 2019-2020 season with an 5-6 record overall and a 0-0 record in Big Ten play, with wins over Drake and Ball State.
• Head coach Gene Orlando is entering his 30th season as leader of the Spartans. His players have seen success on the court and in the classroom under his leadership, with the tennis team achieving the MSU department high cumulative GPA of 3.812 for the 2019-2020 season.
• The Spartans made their first NCAA tournament appearance during the 2012-13 season. 
 
Series History
• Nebraska holds a 7-4 all-time advantage over Michigan State, as the teams’ rivalry started when NU joined the Big Ten in 2011-2012. 
• The Huskers won the first ever matchup against the Spartans on February 19, 2010 in Lansing. 
• NU last triumphed against Michigan State on April 21, 2019 — in a regular Big Ten season matchup played in Lincoln.
 
Scouting Michigan

• The Wolverines closed the 2020 spring season with an 14-3 record overall, a 1-0 record in Big Ten competition and quality wins over ranked TCU, Texas A&M and Texas.
• Coming from Pepperdine, Adam Steinber, seven-year veteran head coach, has led Michigan to an 105-50 all-time record.
• A sophomore from Prague, Czech Republic, Ondrej Styler was selected as this week’s BIG Tennis Athlete of the Week, coming off his successful weekend against #8 Ohio State with four wins. 
 
Series History
• Michigan leads the all-time series 1-7, with the Wolverines winning the last matchup against the Huskers on April 19, 2019 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
• NU last beat Michigan on March 29, 2015 in Lincoln, 4-0. 
 
Cacciatore’s Success
• Last season, junior Patrick Cacciatore saw action in all positions but No. 1 and posted a 4-8 record in the spring season. 
• Against No. 47 Northwestern last weekend, Cacciatore defeated Daniel Martin in the No. 6 singles position and paired with Shunya Maruyama in doubles to go 2-0 on the day.
• The Tampa, Fla., native looks to continue his success this coming weekend.
 
Gleason Notches First Big Ten Win
William Gleason, a native of Lincoln, Neb., has seen action in each of Nebraska’s matches this season, playing at the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions.
• Last weekend against Wisconsin, Gleason outlasted Jesper Freimiuth in singles and partnered with Shunya Maruyama in doubles to defeat the Badgers’ No. 2 duo.
