Husker Legend Julia Bond Joins Nebraska Bowling Staff

Nebraska Bowling Head Coach Paul Klempa announced Tuesday that former Husker great Julia Bond will join the NU coaching staff as an assistant coach.

“We are all pleased to welcome Julia Bond back into our Husker Bowling family. She will do great things for the program, and we are all excited to have her join us in our quest for back-to-back national championships,” said Klempa. “Julia had an incredible Husker career and has gone on to find success in the professional ranks. This summer, she won the prestigious Queen’s title on the professional tour. These experiences will help her to guide our players and pass along her knowledge of competing at an elite level. Julia is a fierce competitor who never does anything halfway. She will bring that fire into her new position, and we will all welcome it.”

Bond, a four-time All-American as a collegian, returns to her alma mater after winning a pair of events on the Professional Women’s Bowling Association in 2021, highlighted by United States Bowling Congress Queens in May. She has also been a member of Team USA since 2017.  Before turning professional, she won the 2017 U.S. Amateur and was the runner-up the following year.

“I’m extremely excited to be returning,” said Bond. “It was amazing to be a part of the program as a player, but now being on the other side as a coach is an absolute honor. Collegiate bowling has a special place in my heart and to be involved again at my alma mater is more than I could ever ask for.”

As a Husker, Bond enjoyed one of the most decorated careers in program history. She finished her career third in career average (210.092) and won six events and posted 21 top-five finishes in her career. In 2015, she was named the Most Outstanding Bowler at the NCAA Championships, helping the Huskers to an NCAA title. She was a two-time NCAA All-Tournament selection, helping the Huskers to a national title and two NCAA runner-up finishes.

Bond, who graduated from Nebraska in 2019 with a degree in forensic science, also shined in the classroom. She was a two-time NTCA Scholastic All-American (2015-16) and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2016-17-18). She was a nine-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
