Husker Great Boomershine Earns USBC Queens Top Seed

Former Nebraska bowling great and 2008 graduate, Lindsay (Baker) Boomershine, has dominated the match play of the 2023 USBC Queens tournament, earning the top seed for the TV show finals being held Tuesday evening.

Boomershine, a New York native, is a powerhouse alumni of Nebraska. From the day she entered the program in 2004, Boomershine helped Nebraska on the lanes earning the coveted NCAA Rookie of the Year award as well as a National Championship for NU.

Joining the former Husker in the stepladder finals is the 2014 champion Maria Jose Rodriguez, along with Carlene Beyer, Correen Acuff and Dasha Kovalova, the 2019 Queens champion.

“It’s taken me a long time to get here, and I don’t mean just this week; I mean since the relaunch of the PWBA Tour in 2015,” Boomershine said. “I feel like I’m in a really good place right now mentally and physically. My hard work has paid off. The last few shows that I’ve been on, I’ve bowled exceptional well, and it just didn’t go my way. I figure if I keep putting myself in this position, I’m eventually going to break through.”

The 2023 USBC Queens marks the first major of the current PWBA season. This year’s Queens has a distinct Husker flavor with multiple competitors and finalists bowling for Nebraska in previous years. Huskers that made the championship bracket after three days of qualifying include Liz Kuhlkin, Jasmine (Laugerman) Snell, Shannon Pluhowsky, Erin McCarthy and current Assistant Coach Julia Bond.

Bond, the 2021 Queens Champion, is the most recent Husker Alum to win the title. Bond had a strong run at this year’s Queens, winning multiple matches in bracket play but ultimately fell short in a hard fought match to Correen Acuff 637-636. Bond was able to finish in the 11-14 range with final placements to be determined post-championship finals.

Boomershine will compete tonight at 7 p.m. ET on CBS Network. The top prize, along with a coveted tiara, is $60K.
