Husker Divers Help Secure Win Over Cyclones

Lincoln, Neb.– Husker divers secured a pair of victories along with two runner-up finishes to propel Nebraska swimming and diving to the 151-149 win over Iowa State on Friday.

Freshman Kelsey Clairmont claimed first in the three-meter with a 314.25, while finishing second in the one-meter behind teammate Reagan Hinze. Scoring a 272.48 in the one-meter, Hinze, the junior from Conroe, Texas, came out on top. Clairmont finished second in the one-meter with a 269.48.

Gena Jorgenson continued the impressive start to her Husker career, swimming to two titles, with a 10:13.63 in the 1,000 freestyle and a 4:58.68 in the 500 freestyle. 

Molly Rosenthal joined Jorgenson in the 1,000 freestyle top three with a 10:23.30 to finish third. 

The 200 butterfly race was a highlight for NU, as the team swam to a top-three sweep, led by Shannon Stott (2:03.98). The senior from St. Albans, Great Britain collected six 200 butterfly titles last season. Sarah Barton finished as runner-up in the 200 butterfly with a 2:05.95, while Berkeley Livingston rounded out the top three with a 2:06.01.

Giulia Marchi swam to the 200 freestyle title with a 1:52.21 and a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle (52.14) behind Iowa State’s Carley Caughron. In the 50 freestyle, Caughron notched another title with a 23.97. Emily Haimes claimed the top spot for the Huskers in the 50 freestyle, finishing third with a 24.34.

Lexi Kucera rounded out the individual titles for the Huskers, with a 56.65 in the 100 butterfly. She added a third-place effort in the 200 freestyle with a 1:52.81 and a relay victory, joining Haimes, JoJo Randby and Gabby Donahue in the 200 medley relay (1:45.18).

Gabby LePine took both breaststroke events for the Cyclones. Maia Hall swam to second in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.25) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.25), while Randby notched a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:04.77. Sydney McCracken was in the mix as well, finishing third in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.74).

Madesyn Ronquillio was NU’s top finisher in the 100 backstroke, taking second with a 56.56.   

The Huskers have a quick turnaround and will be back competing in the Devaney Center Natatorium tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CT) as they face Minnesota and South Dakota. A livestream will be provided on the Huskers YouTube page.
