Husker Bowling to Make Debut on BTN on Feb. 27

Lincoln – One of Nebraska’s most successful programs will make its Big Ten Network debut later this month, as the network will televise Nebraska bowling’s final match of the 2022 Big Red Invitational.

The network will carry the final match of the Big Red Invitational from Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 27, beginning at 11 a.m.  Former Husker Coach Bill Straub and veteran broadcaster Larry Punteney will call the action, as the Huskers will wrap up the three-day event with a best-of-seven Baker format match that day.

For Nebraska Bowling Coach Paul Klempa, today’s announcement provides another platform for the defending national champion Huskers and the sport of college bowling. Nebraska has won eight national titles since becoming a varsity sport in 1998, including six NCAA championships (2004-05-09-13-15-21).

“We are excited to present Husker bowling on the Big Ten Network,” Klempa said. “Anytime you have the chance to be the first of something, it truly is a great opportunity. Not only is it great exposure our program, but also great for the sport to have live

college bowling televised to a national audience during the regular season. We usually have a great turnout for our Big Red Invitational, and I think our fans will be excited to be a part of the show with BTN’s first televised bowling match.”

The Huskers, who are ranked third nationally, returned three All-Americans from last year’s NCAA Championship team, including NTCA Bowler of the Year Crystal Elliott.

The Big Red Invitational is a three-day event scheduled from Feb. 25-27 at Hollywood Bowl in Lincoln.
