Hall Breaks Four-Decade Pool Record in Huskers’ Dominant Display Against Rutgers

In an outstanding display of skill and endurance, the University of Nebraska’s women’s swimming and diving team made a splash in their home dual against Rutgers, leading 113-54 on the first day. Highlighting the day was junior Maia Hall, who shattered a 41-year-old pool record in the 200 breaststroke at the Devaney Natatorium.

Hall’s record-breaking time of 2:10.93 eclipsed the previous mark of 2:13.35 set by Jeanne Childs back in 1983, showcasing the tremendous progress and talent within the Huskers’ ranks. Hall’s performance wasn’t just a personal victory; it was a testament to the strength and depth of Nebraska’s swimming program.

The day kicked off with a Husker victory in the 200 medley relay, with Sarah Barton, JoJo Randby, Beatrix Tanko, and Emily Haimes combining for a winning time of 1:41.52, setting the tone for a day of dominance. Gena Jorgenson added to the Huskers’ success with two individual wins in both the 500 freestyle and the 200 backstroke, further demonstrating Nebraska’s prowess in the pool.

The Huskers continued their winning streak with top-three finishes in the 100 freestyle, led by Giulia Marchi’s first-place finish. Freshman sensation Anastasia Tichy also made waves, setting a career-best time of 1:58.20 in the 200 butterfly, showcasing the bright future of the program.

Not to be outdone, the Huskers’ diving team also made their mark, with Kelsey Clairmont securing a second-place finish in the three-meter diving competition. Antonina Harned followed closely to clinch third place, highlighting Nebraska’s all-around talent in both swimming and diving disciplines.

As the Huskers gear up for day two against the Scarlet Knights, Senior Day festivities are set to precede the competition, promising another day of exciting performances and potentially more records falling.
