Gutschewski Earns Top Five Finish

Former Nebraska golfer Scott Gutschewski captured the best PGA Tour finish of his career by taking fifth at the Barracuda Championship at the Tahoe Mountain Golf Club in California on Sunday.

The Barracuda Championship, which was a co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, used the modified-Stableford scoring format. Gutschewski’s +35 (6-8-11-10) over four rounds earned him a fifth-place payout of $151,700.

It marked the second top-20 finish of the season for the 45-year-old former Husker, joining his tie for 18th at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio in early April.

A first-team All-Big 12 performer on the best team in Nebraska history, Gutschewski helped the Huskers to a 14th-place team finish at the 1999 NCAA Championship, after playing a major role in NU’s Big 12 runner-up and third-place NCAA Regional finishes that same season.
