Frosted Flakes: Are Divisions the New Conferences?

The one where Jill asks a very simple question she probably shouldn’t. Also, there are tattoos, Huskers in the NFL, and more proof that cord-cutters are smart.

There’s been a subject I’ve been kicking around for a while. Every time I hear a reference to the Huskers’ conference championship drought (none since 1999 if you need a reminder), I can’t help but compare how conferences were structured in the past with they way they are now.

In the old Big Eight, Nebraska and seven other teams squared off in a round robin schedule to determine the champion. Then, the Big Eight became the Big Twelve and eventually Nebraska defected for the Big “Ten”, which currently has fourteen teams.

The Huskers now compete in a seven-team division for a chance to play in the conference championship game. Since joining the Big Ten, Nebraska has only won their division and played in the B1G championship game once. We’ll skip the details. You’re welcome.
