Friday Flakes: Something Is Different At Memorial Stadium Nebraska Football Huskers Scott Frost News

I wrote the morning after the blowout win over Northwestern that there was a feeling in the air at Memorial Stadium that hasn’t been there in quite some time. Well maybe it has never been there before.

When you are a program that is used to winning, and actually winning comfortably, then it’s hard to enjoy games like the win against Northwestern.

However, when you have been dragged through the mud for the better part of a decade then something starts to simmer beneath the surface. It is just waiting, and waiting to be released.

I think that start to the Northwestern game was the turning of the relief valve. Then the following week against Michigan I have heard from multiple people that it was one of the loudest and angriest crowds they have been a part of as a fan.

But why would the atmosphere be so visceral when your team is 3-3 and the other team is ranked in the Top 10?

Go ahead and destroy me in the comments if you would like, but I think Nebraska fans know what progress looks like and it’s sitting right in front of them. Dirk Chatelain wrote that he knows he’s looking at a good football team but they happen to be 3-4. In 2016 when the Mike Riley led team started 7-0 I think most Nebraska fans knew they weren’t looking at a top 10 football team.

Nebraska fans could be trying to “will” the team over the hump and they are doing it as a collective group.

Nebraska winning football games is still not a given so lets just make some friendly assumptions as I say the following. If Nebraska wins the next two games against Minnesota and Purdue then they are sitting at 5-4 going into Ohio State. We can assume that’s a loss in this thought process. Next is Wisconsin. Right now Wisconsin is really struggling on offense so there is an opportunity to get one.

If Nebraska grabs it’s sixth win against Wisconsin then I am going to do everything I can to get to that Black Friday game against what should be against an undefeated Iowa team.

It would be a perfect time to open up the release valve all the way.
