Four Huskers Finish in Top 25



The Nebraska men’s golf team had four golfers land in the Top 25 during the Desert Mountain Collegiate to finish at fourth in the team’s race with a total of 879 (+15) in Scottsdale, Ariz., over the weekend.

NU opened with its best round, shooting a 287 (-1) on the par-72, 7,107-yard layout. The first-round effort was led by seniors Caleb Badura and Mark Foelbaek, each carding a three-under-par 69. Foelbaek (Jelling, Denmark) followed up with a 80 (+8) and 73 (+1) on his final rounds to finish tied for 20th (222).

Badura, a Nebraska native, put up a 76 (+4) in the second round and a 78 (+6) in the third to finish tied for 25th with a 223. This matches his best 54-hole score in the fall season as he also golfed a 223 at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in September.

Senior Tom Westenberger led the Big Red, firing a one-over 73 in the first, an even-par 72 in the second and closing with a 75 to finish in 15th-place (220) among the 15-team field.

Senior Branden Meyer added another top-25 finish for NU, scoring a 222 to tie with Foelbaek for 20th. Meyer (Gilbert, Ariz.) improved his score by two strokes each round, opening with a 76, shooting a 74 in the second and firing an even-par 72 in the final round on Sunday.

Junior Will Marshall rounded out the Big Red lineup with a tie for 46th after golfing a 228 (+12). His best round came from the second, where he fired an even-par 72.

Michigan took the team title with an 873 (+9) after beginning Sunday in fourth place. UAB and Little Rock tied for second with a 877 (+13), while the Huskers finished close behind.

Southern Illinois’ Matthis Besard finished as the medalist with a 214 (-2).

Nebraska returns to action March 27-28 at the UNC Wilmington-hosted Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C.
