Former Nebraska quarterback Dave Humm passed away Tuesday night at his home in Las Vegas due to complications with multiple sclerosis. He was 65.
Humm was diagnosed the condition at age 35 and had been in a wheel chair since 1997.
Humm started from 1972-1974, guiding Nebraska to a 27-7-2 record during that time. His 5,035 career passing yards were a school record until Zac Taylor broke it in 2006. Humm now ranks 5th in NU history in career passing behind Tommy Armstrong (8,871), Taylor Martinez (7,258), Taylor (5,850) and Joe Ganz (5,125).
Humm helped Nebraska to victories against Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl in ’72, Texas in the Cotton Bowl in ’73 and Florida in the Sugar Bowl in ’74.
Humm was also a fifth-round pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 1975 NFL Draft. He was a backup on Super Bowl-winning Oakland teams in the 1976 and ’83 seasons. Humm played 95 games over 10 seasons with the Raiders, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Colts.
