Former Husker Coach Frank Solich Returns To Memorial Stadium | KLIN

It was 20 years ago when Frank Solich was fired as head coach of the Husker football team.  On Friday Solich returned to Memorial Stadium for the first time since 2003.

Solich says it feels good to be back in Lincoln and credited Athletic Director Trev Alberts for making his return happen.  “I’ve been invited back several times by Trev, and he was relentless,” Solich says. “He kept after it, and it makes a lot of sense to be back. I spent a lot of time on that field out there, family, spent a lot of time here. We consider it our home.”

Solich and his family will be honored on the field at half time of Saturday’s spring game. Solich was fired after a 9-3 season in 2003.  He posted a 58-19 record as head coach and led the Huskers to the 2001 National Championship game.
