End of offseason conjecture … What if?

What if we had gone a different route in 2017?

Back at the end of 2017 I’m the only die-hard Husker fan among my peers who didn’t want to fire Riley and hire Scott Frost. Don’t get me wrong. I loved Scott Frost as a player, and respected him as a coach. I just thought we’d be wasting too much buyout money to get rid of Riley, and Frost’s $5 mil salary was too pricey. Instead, I proposed elevating Mike Riley (making $2.8M per year) to a CEO type role, and spending an additional $5 or $6 million per year to hire the best team of assistant coaches available. Riley had tons of contacts throughout college and NFL ranks. With that kind of coin he could have pulled in a stellar AD and OC, and top notch assistants. For the sake of transition we could have taken a couple years to implement this approach.

What think ye, Husker nation? Would this have worked?
