On Thursday, the NU athletic department announced the 2019 Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame class. There are seven inductees in total, including Ed Weir and Carol Frost, who were named “pioneer inductees” of the 2019 class, in honor of the 150th anniversary of the university’s founding.

Weir, the namesake of Nebraska’s outdoor track facility, was an assistant coach on the football team and the head coach of the track and field team. Before he became a coach, he was a player at Nebraska. Weir was the first person to be named a two time All-American in Nebraska football team history, receiving the distinction both in 1924 and 1925. He returned to Nebraska in 1929, where he spent the next four decades at the University as a coach and administrator.

Frost, a former Olympian and UNL alum, served as the head coach of the Husker women’s track and field team as well as the women’s cross country team from 1976-1980. Her son is Scott Frost, Nebraska’s current head football coach.

Wistrom played for the Husker football team from 1994 until 1997. The Webb City, Missouri native won a national championship with Nebraska his senior year in 1997. A member of the college football hall of fame, Wistrom recorded 206 tackles in his career, 58.5 of which went for a loss.
