Corn Flakes: Ohio State, Minnesota Win Plus Previews For Weekend Games

Lots of good football this weekend, here’s some stuff to prepare for it.

It was a fun night for an opening night (kind of, ignoring last weekend) of college football. I don’t think there was much unexpected…

Minnesota’s debut was more sluggish than I expected. Their run game wasn’t that great against a Buffalo team that wasn’t that great. Their young quarterbacks were inconsistent – as expected, and their defense was decent. It was the lowest points scored by a Gopher opponent since 2006, and PJ Fleck became the first Gopher head coach to win his opener since John Gutenkunst in 1986. How ‘bout that?

Ohio State’s first half wasn’t really unexpected either. The Buckeye receiving corps isn’t that great. Buckeye media/fans have spent this offseason blaming Tim Beck for their offensive problems last year, but this team is only going to go as far as their passing game will let them. They beat Indiana by focusing more on the run game in the second half, and by moving to intermediate routes in passing. Their receivers started catching the ball.
