Colombo, Spence Named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team had two gymnasts named to the Gymnasts to Watch list which was released by the Big Ten on Wednesday. 

Sophomore Emma Spence receives Big Ten Gymnast to Watch honors for the second year in a row. Spence had an impressive freshman campaign, competing on every event at all 11 meets during the 2022 season. The Cambridge, Ontario, native, competed for Team Canada during the summer of 2022, earning bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games in the team and all-around competition as well as a bronze medal at the World Gymnastics Championships. Spence has excelled in the classroom earning a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and WCGA Scholastic All-America honors. Spence also earned a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for her contributions in the Lincoln community. 

Senior Clara Colombo was the second Husker to be named a Big Ten Gymnast to Watch. The Caraviggio, Italy native, had a strong junior season, finishing the 2022 year at the NCAA Seattle Regional where she competed on uneven bars. Colombo is a leader in the classroom, earning the Nebraska Silver Academic Medallion in 2022 and is a five-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll member. She is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, WCGA Scholastic All-American and an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar. Colombo has been named a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team three times as well. 

The Huskers will open the 2022-23 season with a meet against No. 15 Arkansas on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m. CT. The meet will be streamed on BTN+.
