Bourne, Shelley Named Academic All-District

Nebraska’s Isabelle Bourne and Jaz Shelley earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators of America when the organization announced its CSC Academic All-America candidates for women’s basketball on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Bourne, a fourth-year Husker from Canberra, Australia, ranks among the top 25 players in school history in both scoring and rebounding. The three-time team captain is a two-time honorable-mention All-Big Ten choice and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. A Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2021, the 6-2 forward is also a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award winner. Nebraska’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, Bourne is a two-time Husker Award winner. She was also chosen to receive the Latimer Family Scholarship in 2021-22 – the first endowed scholarship to the Nebraska women’s basketball program in school history. Bourne is a communication studies major at Nebraska.

Shelley, in her second season as a Husker, has been Nebraska’s leading scorer and one of the Big Ten’s most versatile players the past two seasons. In less than two seasons, Shelley has climbed into the top 10 on Nebraska’s career three-point list and is approaching the top 10 on NU’s career assist chart. Last season, she was the only player in the Big Ten to rank among the top 20 in all five major statistical categories, including scoring (16th), rebounding (15th), assists (5th), steals (T5th) and blocks (13th). She was a second-team All-Big Ten selection and a member of the Big Ten All-Defensive Team. The only collegian on the Australian National Team that earned a bronze medal at the 2021 Asia Cup, Shelley was a member of the Naismith Trophy Watch List and the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List this season. The 5-9 guard from Moe, Australia is an advertising and public relations major at Nebraska.

The CSC Academic All-America team for women’s basketball will be announced on March 15.
