Baete Bags Big Ten Weekly Honor

Lincoln – Nebraska’s Kirsten Baete captured the Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week award when the conference announced its weekly honors on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Baete, a senior from Beatrice, Neb., fired a career-best 206 (-10) on her way to the individual title at the White Sands Intercollegiate at Paradise Island in the Bahamas (Oct. 22-24). Baete led the tournament from start-to-finish after firing back-to-back rounds of 67 (-5) on Friday and Saturday before closing with an even-par 72 on Sunday, on the 6,415-yard layout of the Ocean Club.

Baete’s performance allowed her to claim her first career collegiate title, while powering Nebraska to a runner-up team finish in a field that included 2021 NCAA Regional participants, Campbell, Mercer and the hosts from Miami.

She closed the season as the only Nebraska golfer to compete in all 15 of the team’s competitive rounds in the lineup, while her 73.47 stroke average represented a nearly three-stroke-per-round improvement over the spring of 2021, when she helped Nebraska to a Big Ten runner-up finish and a trip to the NCAA Columbus Regional.

Baete is the fourth Husker this fall to be named the Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week, joining Lindsey Thiele and Nicole Hansen (Sept. 22) and Michaela Vavrova (Oct. 6).
