Adrian Martinez Named to 2018 FWAA Freshman All-America Team

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez is one of 32 players who have been named to the Football Writers Association of America’s 2018 Freshman All-America Team, joining Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence.

This past season, the true freshman threw for 2,617 yards and 17 touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed for 629 yards and scored eight touchdowns.

The Fresno, California native became just the second FBS true freshman quarterback since 1990 to average 200 passing yards and 50 rushing yards per game. He also helped lead the offense to a school record total of 295.1 yards of total offense per game.

This is the second consecutive year a Husker has been selected to the FWAA’s list, as wide receiver J.D. Spielman made the 2017 version.

Martinez won the starting job towards the end of fall camp, beating out fellow California native Tristan Gebbia and sophomore QB transfer Andrew Bunch.

The FWAA was founded in 1941, consisting of over 1,400 journalists, broadcasters, publicists, and executives who cover college football.
