Columbus, Ohio- The No. 5 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team kicked off the post-season at the Big Ten Championships where the Huskers qualified 10 gymnasts to compete in the individual finals set to take place on day two of the championships. Nebraska concluded the team finals with a third-place finish (410.500), behind second place Penn State (410.700), and first place Michigan (412.400).
10 Huskers will compete tomorrow in the individual finals including Taylor Christopulos, Nathan York, Moritz Mueller, Cooper Giles, Travis Wong, Liam Doherty-Herwitz, Chris Hiser, Zac Tiderman, Asher Cohen, and Donte McKinney. The second day of competition will begin on Saturday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. CT on BTN.
Competing in the all-around for Nebraska, junior Taylor Christopulos took second with a score of 83.100.
Parallel Bars
NU led off the night on parallel bars, where they earned a 65.100 as a team. Asher Cohen led the squad with a 13.75, while Yanni Chronopoulos put up a season-best (13.50). Liam Doherty-Herwitz also scored a 13.50, and Joey Pepe competed for a score of 10.689. Taylor Christopulos finished off with a 13.70.
Michigan’s Fred Richard took the parallel bars meet-best (14.85).
High Bar
Nebraska had a team score of 68.750 for their second rotation of the championships. Zac Tiderman led the way with a stick to earn a 14.15 for the junior, landing in fourth. Donte McKinney (13.75) took eighth, and Chronopoulos (13.70) followed closely behind with a personal-best. Liang earned a 13.50, and Christopulos anchored with a 13.65 for NU.
Michigan’s Richard earned the meet-best score on high bar (14.60).
Floor
The Huskers earned a 70.150 as a team on floor. Taylor Christopulos led the squad with an impressive score of 14.50 to claim a share of the meet-best score(14.50). Freshman Nathan York notched a solid 14.45, a personal-best and good for third overall. Not far behind, Moritz Mueller put up a 14.20 personal-best routine in sixth. Luke James earned a 13.80, while Chris Hiser scored a 13.20 to conclude the event.
Pommel Horse
The Big Red had a team score of 66.350 on pommel horse. Led by Cooper Giles, the senior put up a 13.60 landing in sixth overall. Travis Wong tied in seventh (13.55), while York earned a 13.05 respectively. Toby Liang scored a 12.85, and Christopulos anchored again with a 13.30 on the event and tenth overall, good to compete in the day two of individual finals.
Illinois’ Ian Skirkey claimed the meet-best score on pommel horse (14.45).
Rings
Nebraska earned a score of 68.750 as a team on rings. Captain Doherty-Herwitz led the team with a big 14.30, a personal-best for the senior and third overall. Hiser also made big marks, tying his personal-best (14.05) in fifth place. Cohen collected a 13.70, and Chronopoulos notched a season-best (13.45). Christopulos capped the rotation with a 13.25.
Michigan’s Javier Alfonso took the meet-best score on rings (14.85).
Vault
The Huskers wrapped up the first day of team competition with a 71.400 on vault. Tiderman showed out with a big 14.95, a personal-best and good for second place. Christopulos tied for fourth with a score of 14.70. McKinney scored a 14.10, while James (13.95), and Doherty-Herwitz (13.70) closed the first night and team finals of the Big Ten Championships.
Michigan’s David Wolma claimed the meet-best on vault (15.00).
