Huskers to play Oklahoma State in Sioux Fall’s Sanford Pentagon

The Nebraska men’s basketball team will make its first trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Dec. 16 to face former Big 12-foe Oklahoma State.

The Sanford Pentagon will host the first meeting between the two programs since 2011. Start time and TV coverage will be announced later.

The contest will be Nebraska’s first trip to the 3,200-seat Pentagon, which has hosted 23 NCAA Division I men’s college basketball games since opening in 2013. Head coach Tim Miles said he was looking to schedule a game in Sioux Falls for some time.

“There’s a lot of (Husker) fans up in that area,” Miles said. “So, I think it’s a good venue for us to play. (Sioux Falls) has hosted half of the Big Ten so far, and several other schools, high major games.”

Nebraska’s coming off of a 22-11 season, going 13-5 in the Big Ten. The Huskers return six of their top eight scorers from last season.

Oklahoma State finished last season with a 21-15 record, advancing to the third round of the NIT. The Cowboys played in the Pentagon on Dec. 12, 2015, defeating Minnesota 62-60.

The Huskers’ match-up with Oklahoma State is part of a loaded non-conference schedule which also features two games in Kansas City for the Hall of Fame Classic against either Texas Tech, USC or Missouri State, a Big Ten/ACC Challenge game at Clemson, a home game with Seton Hall and the annual Creighton game which is in Lincoln this year. There’ll also be 20 Big Ten games – an increase from 18 conference games last year.

“It’ll be one of those years when our schedule should be strong enough to win 19 or 20 (games) and get into the NCAA tournament,” Miles said, “because I can’t stand winning 22 and not getting in.”
