The Cornhuskers are projected to face the ACC’s Syracuse Orange in the Pinstripe Bowl bowl projections from USA TODAY. This is the third straight week that the matchup has been projected.
It would be the 13th meeting between the Huskers and Orange, but the first one since the 1984 season. Syracuse holds the all-time edge in the series at 7-5.
The Orange are led by former Matt Rhule assistant Fran Brown, who is in his first year with the program. Syracuse is currently 5-1 this season and coming off a bye week. However, they will be on the road to face top-25-ranked Pittsburgh on Thursday night. The Orange’s only loss of the season was a 26-24 loss to Stanford in week four.
In this week’s projections, the Big Ten again has three representatives in the 12-team playoff: the Ohio StateBuckeyes, the Oregon Ducks, and the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Oregon would host Iowa State in the first round and Penn State would host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. After receiving a first-round bye, Ohio State is projected to face Penn State in the Rose Bowl in the quarterfinals. Oregon would play Clemson in the Peach Bowl.
The projections still have a potential Ohio State vs. Oregon rematch in the CFP Semifinals at the Cotton Bowl before Ohio State and Georgia are projected to play in the College Football Playoff title game.
