Wednesday Frosted Flakes: Jumping Out Of A Perfectly Good Airplane

Look! Up in the Air! It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s Rex Burkhead scoring the winning touchdown! (Photo by Eric Francis/Getty Images) | Getty Images

I have this colleague that has jumped out a perfectly good airplane around fifteen hundred times. He has been talking about, from much of my prodding, his skydiving experiences almost everyday to the point where I felt like I needed to go do this thing myself. He told stories of jumping out of helicopters, cargo planes, and doing low altitude jumps. I was completely sold on it.

I live in small town Southeast Kansas and the closest place to skydive is another small town south of me called Skiatook in Oklahoma. Six hours of training later only really prepares you for if you need to cut the main and use the reserve. It does not prepare you for the sound of the side door of the plane opening up. Or the feeling of standing on the step outside the airplane waiting for both instructors to get ready to jump. Talk about adrenaline!
