We should just not hire an OC for this coming season

Obviously if we manage to score some home-run hire (seems unlikely), and if Frost agrees to let that home-run hire do his thing without interference (even less likely), then yes we should have an OC. But the reality is that Frost is likely going to insist on calling the offense himself, and we’re probably not going to get the type of OC who can turn things around in one year with a different system. If we hire an OC, it’s probably going to be some figurehead yes-man like Lubick.

With that in mind, we should focus entirely on getting the best position coaches available—especially somebody who can fix our dreadful offensive line—and then use the final coaching spot for a dedicated special teams guy. Reading that [post yesterday about our complete failure on the blocked punt](https://www.reddit.com/r/Huskers/comments/r4me3v/the_anatomy_of_a_punt_block_feat_nebraska_special/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf), we desperately need help on special teams. It’s unusual to have a dedicated special teams coach, but we have an unusually bad special teams unit.

If things go well next year, we can consider the possibility of bringing in a dedicated OC.

Feel free to torch this hot take. Just doesn’t seem from the peanut gallery like there’s any hope to adding an OC when (1) we probably won’t hit a grand slam with the hire, (2) anybody we do hire will likely just be doing whatever Frost says anyways, and (3) we really need the help on special teams.
