Volleyball Post-season

Okay so obviously we still have to play Iowa, Michigan, and Penn State but this weekend’s split with Ohio State dropped us a spot in the rankings so it got me thinking about tournament seeds. Minnesota jumped up to #4 so if you go by the current AVCA rankings the #1 seeds are: Wisconsin, Texas, Kentucky, and Minnesota. I don’t see much changing there unless Minnesota hits a skid and we win out, putting us back at #4.

We’re probably looking at a #2 seed and honestly my hope is that we are placed in whatever “region” Texas is in, because an Elite 8 match-up against them in Omaha would make for great volleyball. However, while we have an incredibly talented team (more than enough talent for a ‘ship) there’s been enough issues that I’m unsure of a run that deep. Lexi Sun continues to be one of the most frustrating players on the team, creating incredible plays one moment and making bone-headed plays the next (see Set 5 from Saturday) and we hit some slumps here and there. It seems when the talent on the other side of the net is greater than average we start to crack a bit. By Set 5 on Saturday we had no answer for Podraza and the game felt over before the first serve in that set.
