Tyson Terry’s commitment gives Nebraska a developing force on D-line

Three-star defensive lineman Tyson Terry announced his commitment to Nebraska on Friday. Here’s the key information to know about the Huskers’ latest commit.

Height and weight: 6-2, 280 pounds.

* Intent matters: When Nebraska assistant coaches hit the road for recruiting visits in December and January, quickly assembling a 2023 class was a priority. So was looking ahead to the future, which meant showing intent to build relationships with prospects from future classes. Special teams coordinator Ed Foley, Nebraska’s key in-state recruiter, visited Terry multiple times at Omaha North early in the process. Defensive coordinator Tony White played a key role, too. When White stopped by North hoping to see Terry in January, only to learn the recruit was away at a wrestling tournament, White visited Terry at the tournament that evening instead. Relationships and gestures like that can make a big difference.

* Securing the state: Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting class is off to a good start, especially when it comes to securing the state’s best players. Millard North athlete Caden VerMaas is Nebraska’s other 2025 pledge alongside Terry, with both deciding their futures after plenty of interest from the Huskers this spring. Both VerMaas and Terry visited campus multiple times this spring, eventually committing on one of those return visits.

Terry is as strong as they come, having won two Class A state titles in heavyweight wrestling already. The 6-2, 280-pounder is an absolute force on the defensive line, with that elite strength often enabling Terry to simply bull rush past opposing offensive linemen. While the defensive tackle takes plenty of snaps closer to the interior of the line, he’s also an excellent pass rusher.

Terry played varsity football immediately as a freshman, and has now recorded 139 tackles and nine sacks just two years into his high school career. Going after a player of that caliber within the state’s borders was a no-brainer for Nebraska — and the Huskers could reap the benefits in years to come. Terry projects well as an impact defensive lineman who still has room to grow in the next two seasons.
